It was a TikTok livestream of horror! This became clear to two young girls within moments of stumbling across the video. What they witnessed left them deeply shaken. And all for TikTok likes!
The stream showed a boy publicly and repeatedly hitting a twelve-week-old kitten and callously lifting it by its fur. Quick-thinking, the girls grabbed their phones and began filming the cruel stream. With this horrific evidence, they immediately alerted Cologne-Porz Animal Rescue in Germany.
Cruel images streamed live - two girls take action
The volunteers had seen a lot and were used to terrible cases of animal abuse. But this case shocked even these hardened helpers. "What the girls showed us was simply unbelievable," the animal welfare workers reported on their Facebook page.
The rescue organisation reacted immediately. Two animal rescue workers filed a report and arranged to meet police outside the boy's flat in Cologne-Dünnwald. What nobody expected was that the case would take a surprising turn.
When Cologne police officers arrived with the animal welfare workers on Monday evening, around 7:30 pm at the flat in Cologne-Dünnwald, they weren't greeted by an aggressive perpetrator, but by his mother. She appeared completely shocked by her son's behaviour.
In an emotional conversation, the mother revealed the true background to the incident: her son suffered from cognitive impairment and didn't understand what he was doing to the animal. But one thing was clear: the cat couldn't suffer because of this! She couldn't remain with the family under these circumstances.
"The mother was very understanding, sad and shocked about the situation," the animal welfare workers later reported. She immediately understood that it made no sense to keep a pet under these circumstances.
During the investigation, a disturbing suspicion emerged. The animal welfare workers suspected that the teenager had abused the cat "to win friends, attract attention and get likes on TikTok."
In an emotional Facebook post, the animal rescue helpers made it crystal clear: "Humiliating, abusing or torturing animals won't get you likes. It might generate attention - but not the kind anyone should be proud of."
Cat with foster family - investigation continues
Thanks to the quick action of the two alert girls, the little cat was now safe. Police immediately took the animal into care. The kitten now lives with a loving foster family and can recover from the traumatic experience.
This shocking incident once again showed how important it was not to look away when witnessing animal cruelty, but to take action. Cologne-Porz Animal Rescue explicitly thanked the two girls: only through their brave actions could something worse have been prevented.
