Abandoned in a park with her litter, cat saves nine kittens before putting herself first

By Elodie Carpentier•

An abandoned mum cat with her babies stepped up to help a rescue shelter in an extraordinary way.

A surprising discovery in the park

In a park in Atlanta, Georgia in the USA, a good Samaritan spotted five kittens and their mother dumped inside a pet carrier. They immediately raised the alarm, and the Catz 4 Life rescue centre quickly stepped in to help. Even though the rescue was completely full, the team refused to turn away this helpless little family and promptly placed them in a temporary foster home.

The mum cat, named Jaga, proved to be remarkable and took wonderful care of her babies. But Jaga's maternal duties were far from over. Just as she finished weaning her own litter, the charity took in four orphaned kittens who had no mother and no way to be fed.

An amazing feline surrogate

The volunteers decided to introduce the motherless orphans to Jaga. Without hesitation, the sweet cat took in the new arrivals, nicknamed the Guardians of the Galaxy. She nursed, cleaned, and comforted them just as if they were her own.

Now old enough and fully weaned, all nine of Jaga's kittens have moved to their loving forever homes. For the first time in a very long time, this four-legged hero has no one left to look after and can finally focus on herself.
