Last August, while enjoying a holiday on the Greek island of Crete, Marlène came across a heartbreaking sight. In the car park of her hotel in Chania, a tiny stray kitten was wandering around, weak and left to fend for himself, desperately looking for help. As a true animal lover, she simply couldn't turn a blind eye and walk away.
She immediately took him to a local vet for initial treatment, but she soon faced a huge logistical hurdle. Little Bubble was far too young to travel and had not been vaccinated yet, so he couldn't fly straight back to France with her. Never one to give up, the holidaymaker left the little animal with a local foster family, determined to move heaven and earth to bring him home once his vaccinations were up to date.
A network of guardian angels for a tiny passenger
To organise this extraordinary journey, an appeal was launched on social media to find travellers willing to help the small creature. As reported by La Voix du Nord, finding the right flight was no easy task. They needed a direct route allowing pets in the cabin, between airports close to both the Greek foster family and Marlène's home in France.
In the end, a British couple living in Crete looked after Bubble for several weeks. They even drove three hours to bring him to Heraklion Airport. Once there, other generous holidaymakers agreed to add the kitten to their own ticket and complete all the required paperwork. Thanks to this wonderful chain of kindness, the little kitten landed safely at Lille-Lesquin Airport.
A priceless new beginning
Reuniting with Bubble on the tarmac at Lille was an overwhelming moment for Marlène. In total, the travel costs and medical care came to around €310 for the adoptive family. When asked about adopting an animal from abroad when local shelters are already full, she answered honestly, saying that saving a vulnerable soul knows no borders.
Now comfortably settled into his warm new home, little Bubble is enjoying his second chance and bringing endless joy to his rescue family. It is a heartwarming story that proves human kindness really can overcome any obstacle!
