Dan Van Coppenolle realised there was someone on his doorstep, but he was shocked at what he found when he opened the door.
The man suddenly found himself in front of an emaciated looking dog who was clearly on his last legs.
Shocking state
Shocked at the sight of the poor pup, Dan immediately took to Facebook where he shared a picture of the dog and asked fellow animal lovers for help.
Dan explained that the dog had no collar or identification and was clearly very hungry and weak. He also had severe mange. The dog's ears were also clipped, and it was thought that the poor pup had likely been used for dog fighting.
His post quickly spread among local animal rescuers who soon got in touch with Dan to offer their help.
Kindness of strangers
Later, Dan posted a thank you message for everyone's compassion and help. He was relieved to tell everyone that a woman who fosters sick dogs had come to his house to collect the dog and take care of him.
The dog's new foster mum got him checked over by the vet and has been helping him to get back on his paws. The dog has begun to put on weight and his hair has started to grow back.
It's hoped that as the dog continues his recovery, he will eventually be ready to find a forever home that will give him the love he deserves.
