Lundy the Chihuahua and Herman the pigeon met at the Mia Foundation Animal Rescue Centre in New York.
Lundy was brought in after being born with spinal problems, which mean she can't walk. Herman the flightless pigeon is one of the long term residents.
A beautiful friendship
The pair quickly bonded over their unique differences, and now the snuggle buddies are practically inseparable.
Rescue worker Sue made the original introduction. Talking to The Daily Mirror, she said:
"I set Herman on a dog bed and started caring for Lundy. I decided to carefully put Lundy in the same dog bed. They started interacting immediately in a very cute way."
But the best buddies may have to say goodbye soon.
Staff are helping Lundy get accustomed to a doggy-wheelchair and hope to find the pup a home over the next few months.
What friends are for!
But without the use of wings, Herman will spend the rest of his life being cared for at the shelter.
It will be a sad moment when these two say goodbye, but we're sure they'll never forget the time they spent together. After all, like all best friends, they helped each other through the really tough times!
