Sniffed out in the dark
Police dog Sun has become a local hero in the French town of Illkirch-Graffenstaden (Bas-Rhin) after saving one of his own kind. While on a call-out with the municipal police, the clever canine made a crucial discovery.
The town hall explained in a Facebook post that Sun managed to “detect the presence of a little female dog locked in a dark cellar without food or water, left to fend for herself.”
Speaking to local media, Christian Millot, the head of the municipal police, added: “The animal showed no signs of malnutrition or abuse, but you can't just leave a dog in the dark without water for hours. Without Sun's intervention, the officers would have missed this case entirely.”
A new beginning
The initial investigation revealed that the owner of the Jack Russell Pinscher cross regularly left her in the cellar while he was at work.
The rescued dog is now safely in the care of the SPA (Société Protectrice des Animaux), which intends to press charges for animal cruelty.
