Courage knows no age or physical limits. In New Mexico, USA, a 12-year-old, partially blind dog named Honey has become a true hero after fighting off a bear.

In New Mexico, Honey has become a local hero. This 12-year-old old girl, who is partially blind, had her quiet routine turned upside down when a black bear wandered onto her family's farm.

A terrifying encounter

As reported by People magazine, the dog, whose job it is to patrol the farm, protected her family and dozens of other animals. These included two horses and over 60 chickens, all from a hungry bear that had just emerged from hibernation.

Honey's owner discovered her dog's condition several hours after the confrontation with the bear. "She took the hit so that no one else had to, and she chased a predator away from everything she loves," she explained.

A hero's recovery

Badly injured, Honey was rushed to a veterinary clinic.

After intensive care and several stitches, the 'four-legged hero' was able to return home. Although she still has scars from her fight, her condition is now stable.
