Dog slips under the living room sofa, resulting in rescue from fire brigade

For little Highway, a simple urge to sniff around under the living room furniture turned into a bit of a nightmare. The energetic terrier found himself trapped accidentally in the metal frame of the family's reclining sofa.

Alerted by the soft whimpering of their four-legged friend, his owners tried immediately to free him. Unfortunately, the armchair's complex mechanism had closed around the poor pup, making any manual rescue impossible without risking hurting him.

Firefighters bring out the cutting gear

Helpless in the face of their pooch's distress, the owners called the emergency services. On arrival, the firefighters realised quickly how tricky the situation was: one of the terrier's canine teeth had got caught in one of the sofa's springs.

As reported by the French newspaper DNA, rescuers had to pull out all the stops, using hydraulic cutting equipment — an impressive kit usually reserved for road traffic accidents. They cut through the metal structure piece by piece with watchmaker-like precision so as not to frighten the dog.

A lucky escape and plenty of cuddles

Thanks to the cool heads and kindness of the firefighters, little Highway was freed at last from his iron cage. Taken to the emergency vet for a check-up, which luckily gave him the all-clear, the terrier was soon back in the comfort of his own home.

Now safe and sound with his family, the curious adventurer will likely keep a safe distance from reclining sofas in the future!
