It's a tale of friendship worthy of a cartoon. At the KC Pet Project animal shelter in Kansas City, USA, a young dog named Drake sadly went missing during a walk outside.
Whether he was distracted by a scent or startled by a noise, he quickly darted into the nearby woods and vanished completely from sight.
Despite hours of frantic searching by volunteers and shelter staff, Drake was nowhere to be found.
A stroke of genius
As night began to fall, the desperate shelter team decided to pull out all the stops. They remembered that since his arrival, Drake had become firm friends with another dog at the shelter. The two pals were inseparable, spending their days playing, napping, and comforting each other.
A furry friend to the rescue
So, the staff and volunteers decided to bring in Georgia to help with the search. Guided by her instinct and the familiar scent of her best friend, she immediately picked up his trail and led them into the woods.
It only took the unlikely rescuer a few minutes to find where the lost dog was hiding. Huddled under some thick bushes, the little runaway was trembling with fear.
As the emotional staff looked on, Drake came out of his hiding spot, wagging his tail frantically and showering his saviour with grateful licks.
