How a photo of a lost dog was used to steal hundreds of pounds.

In Catalonia, Spain, a woman has had her handbag stolen, containing €600 (around £500) and her bank card.

A classic distraction technique

As reported by the news site L’Indépendant, the thieves used one of the oldest tricks in the book to distract their victim.

The suspects, who have since been arrested, pretended to be looking for a lost dog. As the woman was walking to her car, a driver pulled up beside her and showed her a photo of a dog.

Known to the police

While the victim was looking closely at the photo, another man slipped in to steal her belongings. Fortunately, several witnesses were able to provide the police with vital information.

According to local Spanish media, the suspects are all well known to the police. They appeared the following day before the investigating court in La Bisbal d’Empordà.
