Britain’s affection for dogs is reaching new heights, with new research from Rover.com showing owners now spend an average of £60 on their pups at Christmas.

While most pet parents (73%) plan to buy a present, nearly half are preparing full stockings.

Remarkably, 38% admit to splashing out more on their dog than on their partner, and over a quarter say their pet receives a bigger budget than their own children.

Dogs top festive shopping lists

Popular gifts range from treats and chew toys to plush teddies, but many owners are embracing luxury options.

Gourmet snacks, personalised bowls, designer beds and even doggy perfume feature among this year’s top choices.

Festive feasts and outings

The indulgence extends well beyond the tree. Keen to involve their pets in the celebrations, 73% of owners say they prepare a special Christmas dinner for their dog, often including turkey, pigs in blankets or a dog-friendly tipple. Some even serve steak to mark the occasion.

Many are also embracing festive outings. From Christmas light trails to markets and even visits to Santa’s grotto, owners say these shared experiences help make the season feel complete for the whole family, four-legged members included.
