While away on a family camping trip, a Florida resident thought he just had a casual visitor at his front door. But when he checked his video surveillance app, he discovered a very unexpected thief making off with his parcel. The scene, captured by his Ring doorbell, was truly astonishing.
An alert while on holiday
Wesley, who lives in Longwood, Florida, received a notification on his phone while he was on holiday. Someone was at his front door.
At first, he probably thought it was a stray animal – perhaps a dog – or just someone passing by. But when he opened the Ring app, he was in for a total shock: a black bear was standing calmly on his porch.
A thief like no other
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida is home to around 4,000 black bears. Adult males weigh between 250 and 350 pounds, while females weigh between 130 and 180 pounds. Needless to say, the animal Wesley spotted was quite an impressive sight.
The video shows the bear prowling in front of the house, sniffing an Amazon parcel, then gently picking it up in its mouth before wandering off.
While parcel theft is common in the United States, where packages are often left on front porches, it's much rarer for the thief to weigh over 220 pounds. According to the family, the bear eventually abandoned the parcel just a few feet from their house.
