In early November, Rosemarie Tutak, an animal care officer with San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS) in Texas, received a call about a kitten trapped in a storm drain.

Although she had few details about the situation, she rushed to the scene to help.

Unfortunately, when the officer arrived at the given address, the kitten was nowhere to be seen.

A clever clue

Thankfully, a father and his three children were on hand to help. They showed her where the kitten had last been seen. The children had cleverly left a note on the drain cover, pointing out that a kitten was trapped inside. This note led Rosemarie to the exact spot.

Rosemarie leaned down and could hear faint meows coming from where the note was. After lifting the heavy cover, she spotted a tiny kitten inside. It wasn't safe for her to climb down into the drain, so she had to think on her feet to rescue the little one.

A clever rescue

The officer came up with a clever plan. She tied a blanket to a rope and lowered it into the hole, hoping the kitten would grab on. And it worked! The little feline latched onto the blanket, and Rosemarie was able to carefully pull the rope back up with the kitten clinging on for dear life.

Once the kitten was safely out of the drain, Rosemarie gave it some food. The poor thing was starving and ate heartily. Thankfully, it wasn't injured. The officer then took the kitten back to the San Antonio ACS shelter to rest and recover in a safe, warm place.

The three children who wrote the note were thrilled to hear the kitten had been saved. And the story has an even happier ending: the little cat quickly caught the eye of a loving family and has now been adopted!
