At Peoria Primary School in the United States, the day had started like any other. That was until a teacher noticed something moving strangely in a Year 2 pupil's bag. Initially thinking it was a prank, the teacher sent the child to the headteacher's office, where Sarah Polnitz worked. When she carefully unzipped the bag, she was astonished to discover two adorable kittens with wide eyes staring back at her.
The little girl, convinced it was Show and Tell day – an activity where pupils present an item from home – simply wanted to show her pets to her classmates. The episode, as funny as it was unexpected, quickly brought smiles to the faces of the entire teaching staff.
Cuddles followed by a lesson on animal safety
Whilst the pupil returned to her classroom, the headteacher's office transformed into a veritable playground for kittens. Teachers and staff took turns cuddling them, bringing them water and blankets. Some even joked that the school should adopt "therapy cats", as the little felines' presence had brightened everyone's day so much.
The parents, contacted immediately, came to collect their daughter and the kittens, not without surprise. They had no idea whatsoever that the animals had been slipped into the bag before leaving for school. This episode, which went viral on Instagram with over a million views, ended with a gentle reminder about animal safety.
