Very worried, the driver called the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to get help.
ADOT sent two members of its response unit to rescue the kitten.
Extreme danger
When they arrived, the two employees discovered that the kitten was alive. However, the kitten had moved and had decided to climb onto the bridge ledge. The spot where it was perched was nearly 100 feet above the ground and overlooked a very busy motorway...
One of the employees approached the kitten calmly and slowly, but the poor thing was terrified. The kitten was frightened and hissed. After several minutes of trying to appear as unthreatening as possible, the rescuers finally managed to pick up the kitten. They gently placed it in a carrier.
Safe and sound
The employees were then able to take the little female cat to Heidi's Village, a local animal rescue organisation. Since arriving at the rescue centre, the kitten has been recovering from her ordeal and receiving the medical care she needs. In honour of her rescue, she was named ADOT.
The kitten is 9 weeks old and will soon be available for adoption. The rescuers are amazed by her gentleness and sweetness, and they think it won't be long before she finds her forever family. We wish her all the best from now on!
