An opportunity to explore
Some dogs might have interpreted the open door as an invitation to explore the house. But not Maui! He used the crate for its intended purpose: a safe place to feel secure and reduce his anxiety.
Indeed, the puppy preferred a good restorative sleep rather than getting up to mischief around the house, which really surprised his owner. Especially as the puppy had only been home for a week!
The big fright
When his human saw the crate door open in the morning, his heart skipped a beat. But when he watched the footage from the security camera, he realised that the puppy had slept through the entire night in his crate, taking advantage of the space to stretch out whilst sleeping.
Internet users praised Maui's good behaviour. "The goal of crate training is to create a calm and safe space, a zen refuge to settle down and relax, not a form of punishment. You've succeeded," wrote one user. "Just more room for his paws so he can stretch out and sleep in the strangest positions! Dogs are so funny!" commented another user. We couldn't agree more!
