As he went to throw his chewing gum in a park bin, Terry jumped when he saw something move at the bottom.
At first, he thought it was a squirrel or a raccoon.
A shocking discovery
But on closer inspection, Terry realised the heartbreaking truth: a small, beige-coloured dog was buried beneath the rubbish. The two walkers lifted the dog out of the bin and started looking for help. The next morning, they contacted Laurie Schildt, a local rescuer, who agreed to take the little one in.
Vets at Canada West Veterinary Specialists examined the dog. The poor little thing had several broken ribs, a broken leg, and a dislocated hip. The vets were confident that he would pull through, but he would need several operations and had a long road to recovery ahead of him.
On the road to recovery
Laurie named the little dog Oscar. He settled into Laurie's home very well. He's a very affectionate little dog, and the rescuer is impressed by his resilience. The poor dog's story touched the hearts of many animal lovers online, who donated thousands of dollars to fund his medical care.
The vets at Canada West Veterinary Specialists also offered to cover part of the bills. And in more good news, Laurie has decided to adopt Oscar, ensuring his future will be filled with love and happiness. We wish him a speedy recovery and all the best for the future.
