In 2017, Craig Mcgettrick heard noises in the yard behind his house and wanted to see what was going on. He discovered an old mattress, lifted it up and found five little puppies underneath. The little ones had apparently been abandoned.
The man decided to take the puppies to the vet to have them examined. Meanwhile, he posted photos on social media and tried to find families for the little four-legged creatures.
A call that changes everything
Just as Craig had almost finished at the vet's, he received a call from Martin Hemmington, the founder of the National Fox Welfare Society. He informed him that he hadn't found puppies, but foxes!
He returned to the spot where the baby foxes had been found and placed them in a warm cardboard box. Then he waited for the babies to get hungry and call for their mother. It wasn't long before the mother arrived and looked after her young. A lovely happy ending!
But how is it possible to mistake a baby fox for a puppy? It's quite simple. As you can see from the photos, the little foxes look very much like dogs. The difference only becomes obvious when the animals grow up.
