Sparkles had been with her family in Florida, USA, for five years and was the beloved pet of their seven-year-old daughter.
She was in the garden when she disappeared.
A mysterious disappearance
Sadly, her family never found out how she went missing. They believed she had been stolen. For years, they moved heaven and earth to find their beloved dog. Her disappearance broke the hearts of the entire family, especially the little girl.
As the years went by, they began to think they would never see her again... But fate had other plans! On 14th February 2026, a full 12 years after she disappeared, a woman brought a stray dog she had found wandering in her neighbourhood to the Abandoned Pet Rescue centre.
A very old microchip
The rescuers at the centre noticed the dog had a very old microchip. When they scanned it, they were able to identify her family! They called them and were relieved to learn that the family still wanted Sparkles back.
The family's daughter, now a young woman, came to collect Sparkles. The reunion was incredibly emotional. Sparkles is now 17 years old and suffers from a serious kidney problem and cataracts. Her condition suggests that, sadly, she had not been properly cared for over the years.
Despite her health issues, Sparkles' family is overjoyed and relieved to have her back. For them, the greatest happiness is simply being able to enjoy her company again and to finally have their 'baby' back home.
