In the United States, in Michigan, Amanda Hergenreder, a veterinarian, rescued and treated a 16-year-old Pitbull she found tied up in the street. An altruistic act that would cost her dearly.
As reported by Ouest-France, the vet was convicted by a Grand Rapids court for "theft" of Biggby, who belonged to a 57-year-old homeless man.
"I never felt the same again"
In her defence, the woman explained the poor health condition of the animal, which has since been euthanised due to age-related health problems.
Interviewed by Wood-TV, the dog's owner explained: "*I had my dog for 15 years. I never neglected him and, you know, we loved each other. I felt like I lost a part of my body after that. I never felt the same again after losing him.*"
To explain why his Pitbull was tied up, Chris Hamilton says he wanted to go to a petrol station 45 minutes away.
After two days of hearings, the veterinarian was found guilty. She faces 93 days in jail and a fine.
