Wren is a Golden Retriever who was born in May 2023.
Sadly, towards the end of last year, the dog experienced a phantom pregnancy.
A transfer of affection
A phantom pregnancy involves behavioural changes that mimic the period before giving birth. This can sometimes be accompanied by fatigue, vomiting, and milk production, even though the dog is not actually pregnant.
In the video below, you can see that Wren has transferred her maternal feelings onto her two plastic pigs. While these are normally just toys for dogs, to Wren, they are much more than that: they are her two puppies.
Important advice
She can be seen keeping them warm, grooming them, and even encouraging them to move with gentle nudges of her nose. Wren's owner captioned the video: ”She looks so sad”, and the dog's behaviour touched many viewers.
In the comments, many people offered advice on how not to “amplify” this behaviour, with some suggesting that the pigs should be taken away. We are sure that Wren will gradually recover from her phantom pregnancy, and we are sending her all our love.
