Paralysed Labrador walks on his own for the first time: his smile has touched millions

By Elise Petter

After months of being unable to move following a stroke, Koda the Labrador is rediscovering his freedom. The pure joy written all over his face has moved his family deeply.

A smile that says it all

The scene is incredibly touching. Koda, a lovely Labrador, is buckled into his custom-made wheelchair, while his owners gently encourage him. Hesitant at first, the dog takes one small step, then another. Suddenly, it clicks. He can move forward all on his own. As his wheels begin to turn, a huge smile lights up his face, filled with a mix of surprise and pure happiness.

Seeing him regain a sense of freedom, his owner cannot hold back her tears. They are tears of joy, as she later shared: "I don't think I've ever cried such happy tears. That tiny bit of independence meant everything after months of carrying him everywhere."

The day everything changed

Behind this moving video lies a long, hard struggle. It all began suddenly in 2024, just the day after Koda's fifth birthday. A spinal stroke left him paralysed, unable to move on his own at all. For such a lively dog, it was a devastating blow.

But his family refused to give up on him. Driven by unconditional love, the couple did everything they could to give Koda the best possible life. They carried him, cared for him, and had a custom wheelchair made, documenting his journey on a TikTok account with the prophetic name: @kodawalksagain ("Koda walks again").

An incredible lesson in resilience

This first outing in his wheelchair was just the start of an extraordinary journey. Driven by his owners' determination and his own strength of character, Koda kept making progress. Today, more than two years after that fateful day, this little fighter has achieved the unthinkable: he is walking on all four legs again, entirely without help.

His stride is still a little wobbly, but his zest for life remains completely untouched. Koda's story is beautiful proof that love, patience, and perseverance can move mountains, bringing light back to the darkest of times.
