The rescuer responded to a call from a woman who had found an unusual visitor on her property.
When she returned home, she discovered a huge Rottweiler making himself comfortable on her porch.
Finding shelter
For almost a week, the dog had been returning to the same spot to shelter from the sun, as temperatures soared above 100°F (38°C). The dog was very friendly, but the woman grew concerned for his welfare and called Priscilla.
Priscilla arrived with her colleague. They found a gentle giant weighing a whopping 95 pounds (43 kg)! The lovely dog was perfectly calm, relaxed, and friendly. He let them approach him without any fuss and happily followed them to the rescue centre.
A happy reunion
Once at the Fresno Humane Animal Services centre, the dog was given a check-up. The staff quickly saw that he was in good health: he was a good weight, his claws were well-kept, and he knew how to walk on a lead. All these signs suggested he already had a loving family!
The staff nicknamed him NeeDoh, because of his gentle nature and teddy bear-like looks. When they scanned him, they found he had a microchip, but it had never been registered. This made the search for his owner much more complicated...
Finally, just before the legal holding period was up, his owner appeared at the centre. He explained that he had been away for a few days and had no idea that his dog, whose real name is Sheru, had escaped. It was a very emotional reunion. Thankfully, it was a case of all's well that ends well!
