A cry for help on a balcony ledge
The drama unfolded on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. A small dog had managed to slip out of its owners' flat and ended up trapped. Terrified, the pup was pacing nervously along the narrow second-floor balcony ledge. On the street below, helpless onlookers held their breath.
It was thanks to a local community chat group that the family of 12-year-old Kyden was alerted to the situation. For the young lad, standing by and doing nothing was simply out of the question. He made his decision in a split second.
A superhero climb
Without a moment's hesitation, Kyden set off on a perilous climb up the front of the building. Foot by foot, he pulled himself up to the second floor to reach the distressed animal. His mother, Melinda, told the Daily Mail: "I think Kyden was a bit nervous, but he didn't want the dog to get hurt, which made it easier for him to just go and help."
Once he reached the balcony, the hard work wasn't over. The most delicate part was yet to come: approaching a dog that was absolutely terrified by the whole ordeal.
A gentle rescue
The poor dog, wary of the stranger, started barking at first as Kyden approached. Realising he shouldn't rush the frightened pup, Kyden showed impressive calmness and maturity. His mum explained: "So he sat down and approached quietly until the dog finally let him pick him up."
Once he had gained the dog's trust, the young boy scooped the animal up gently and carried him back to safety on the balcony. Thinking ahead, he even made sure to block the entrance to the ledge to prevent it from happening again before the owners got back.
The neighbourhood "Spider-Man"
Although the family hasn't heard from the dog's owners, who returned home an hour later, Kyden's brave action certainly didn't go unnoticed. His bravery has been praised by hundreds of people on social media, where he quickly earned the nickname: Spider-Man.
"What an adorable little boy with a big heart," wrote one social media user, touched by a story that reminds us bravery has no age limit.
