Being abandoned leaves lasting scars on animals. In a TikTok video, user TCChantell shared the reaction of Toaster, a rescue dog who had been abandoned twice.
As the footage shows, Toaster's new human is moving house. We see her dog looking dejected in an empty flat.
"He was adopted, then brought back the next day"
The woman quickly realised that this change in behaviour was clearly linked to his past. "*We couldn't get any information about his previous home, but he'd been brought to the shelter at 18 months old*," TC said. "*A few months after arriving at the shelter, he was adopted, then brought back the next day.*"
Having been rehomed twice, the dog must have feared going through another abandonment.
The young woman explains she'd packed a bag for Toaster as she needed to stay in a hotel for a few days whilst waiting for her move to be completed. Her pooch refused to leave the bag for fear of being abandoned. "*It really broke my heart to see him so frightened*," she said.
A happy ending for Toaster
Fortunately, with time, Toaster understood he was safe and loved. Today, he's doing much better and enjoying his new home.
