Henry, a miniature Dachshund, slipped while using the ramp from his deck to the garden for his nightly routine.
The fall caused a severe spinal cord injury, leaving him with stage five intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). The condition, which affects around a quarter of dachshunds, results in paralysis and loss of sensation in the back legs.
Confused cat
In an Instagram video shared by his owner, Jenna Lawing-Yates, Henry’s feline friend Greta can be seen rubbing affectionately against him, confused as to why he would not play as usual. Greta, normally reserved, only ever shows affection to Henry, making the scene even more emotional.
“Greta didn’t understand why her brother wasn’t jumping or tackling her,” Jenna said. “But she loves him regardless. That moment showed me that animals only ever give unconditional love.”
Best friends forever
The clip has been viewed more than 180,000 times, with comments flooding in from animal lovers touched by their bond.
Henry has since been fitted with a wheelchair to help him regain mobility, while Greta continues to sit by his side.
