Faith, a one-and-a-half-year-old Pitbull cross, had a painful start to life. After giving birth to an unexpected litter of puppies, her owners relegated her to the bottom of the garden, locked in a filthy cage. Deprived of contact and left in solitude, she knew nothing but fear until a caring neighbour alerted a rescue network.
Taken in by Happy Paws Rescue in the United States, Faith needed an experienced foster family to help her overcome her trauma. That's how she crossed paths with Kaitlyn, who was ready to offer her the time and gentleness needed for her recovery.
Too frightened to walk, she gradually regains confidence
From the moment she arrived, Kaitlyn understood that Faith needed to be treated with infinite delicacy. Too terrified to move on her own, the dog had to be carried into her new home, a gesture that became a reassuring routine. During the first few days, she refused to leave her crate, the only place she knew, and trembled whenever there was a noise or movement around her.
With her tail constantly tucked under, Faith seemed to be apologising for existing. She didn't even dare go outside for her toilet needs for two days. To help the dog open up, her foster family chose a simple approach: patience, respecting her pace and positive encouragement.
Little by little, Faith began to change. After four days, she dared to climb onto the bed to snuggle up to Kaitlyn, finally finding comfort she'd never known before. Later, she reached a decisive milestone: returning to the house on her own after a play session in the garden, proof that the outdoors was no longer synonymous with punishment.
Waiting for a forever family
Today, Faith is blossoming into a joyful and affectionate dog. She's even developed an amusing habit: as soon as she's outside, she rolls onto her back in the grass to ask for belly rubs. While waiting for her permanent home, she continues to make progress every day and show her true personality.
Her foster family sums it up with humour: to adopt Faith, you'll need to "be able to carry 3 stone of muscular princess". An affectionate way of reminding everyone how much this dog, once broken by fear, now deserves a life filled with gentleness and security.
