When rescuers from Two Rivers Pet And Wildlife Welfare Services in California, USA, heard about a stray dog in need of help, they didn't hesitate for a moment.
But first, they had to find the dog before they could help her.
Children lead the way
It all started when someone reported a stray dog in need of help to Two Rivers Pet And Wildlife Welfare Services. Thanks to a tip-off from some local children, it became clear that the dog was living near some abandoned caravans.
Once they arrived, the rescuers were in for a little surprise. They were greeted by several puppies, but their mother was nowhere to be seen. It seemed the mother dog had hidden her eight puppies under the caravans to keep them safe.
After a few days of patiently leaving out food, the rescuers were finally able to catch all the puppies. Their mother, eventually trusting them, was also brought to safety.
Healthy and happy puppies
Once at the shelter, the whole family had a check-up with the vet. Against all odds, the eight puppies were not only surprisingly clean given where they were living, but also in good health. Their mum, named Sugar, had clearly taken excellent care of them since they were born.
Sugar and her family were then placed in a foster home until they were ready to be adopted.
