The national police in Nancy, France, has just welcomed a new recruit. Galbi, a two-year-old Belgian Malinois, saw his life turned upside down when his owner was taken into police custody and abandoned him.
Following his abandonment, Galbi was taken in by the SPA in Bordeaux. The staff and volunteers there quickly noticed his potential.
A new beginning
An agreement between the SPA and the national police allows certain dogs with exceptional abilities to join their canine units. To be selected, they must first pass a series of strict assessments.
A star in the making
Galbi underwent a series of tests at the National Training Centre for Canine Units, followed by three months of intensive training.
The young Malinois has an exceptional sense of smell and will be tasked with detection missions, particularly for narcotics, weapons, or explosives.
On the Meurthe-et-Moselle police Facebook page, officers praise his character, describing him as playful and endearing, as well as a high performer in the field.
Galbi is expected to serve with the police until he is about nine years old, after which he will enjoy a well-deserved retirement.
