In July, she rescued a dog called Macie.
The poor dog had been found wandering in the woods with two other dogs.
A very fearful dog
Local residents managed to capture the dogs and took them to a local shelter where their microchips were scanned... with no results. The pups received the medical care they needed. Macie wasn't microchipped and she was suffering from fear, anxiety and stress. The shelter rescuers thought they might have to put Macie to sleep, as staying at the shelter any longer would cause her even more stress.
Fortunately, Macie's story caught the attention of Rebecca, who runs the Rescue Dog Network in Florida. The rescuer immediately took Macie in and found her a suitable foster home.
They request a DNA test
The dog was very emaciated. She had very long, thin legs and a narrow ribcage. Everyone was curious to know her origins. The rescuers made a video asking if they could receive a DNA test for Macie.
They finally managed to get the dog DNA tested, and the results stunned the entire shelter team! The test revealed that Macie is 50% Great Dane, but also 44% Wolfdog and 5% German Shepherd. No wonder Macie has such long legs!
In good hands
Fortunately, Macie's foster family has extensive experience with wolfdogs, so she's in good hands. In fact, her foster family is considering adopting her permanently!
Internet users were stunned to learn that Macie is part wolf: "This is the craziest cross I've ever seen." Others said: "The fact that she doesn't even look like a wolfdog is what amazes me. I would have guessed Greyhound and Great Dane." We're amazed and charmed too!
