It was the news Lewis Hamilton's fans had been dreading. On Monday 29 September, the seven-time F1 world champion announced the death of his dog Roscoe.
His 12-year-old English Bulldog had to be placed in a coma following pneumonia. Admitted to a veterinary clinic, Lewis Hamilton's faithful companion had to be sedated for his examinations. Unfortunately, his heart stopped during treatment. The vets managed to resuscitate him before placing him in a coma.
To stay by his dog's side, Hamilton decided to cancel the Pirelli tyre tests at Mugello, scheduled with Ferrari last weekend.
"One of the most painful experiences"
On his Instagram account, the driver broke the terrible news to his 40.8 million fans: "After four days, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe. He never stopped fighting, right until the very end."
"I feel so grateful and honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and a true friend. Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together."
"This is one of the most painful experiences and I feel a deep connection with everyone who has experienced the loss of a beloved pet. Even though it was so hard, having him was one of life's most beautiful moments, loving so deeply and being loved in return."
"Thank you for the love and support you've shown Roscoe over the years. It was so special to witness and feel."
