Duke is a rescue dog with a huge heart, who spent years of his life dreaming of his forever home.
Staff were overjoyed when a family decided to adopt him- but heartbreakingly, things weren't what they seemed.
The saddest start
Duke had arrived at the shelter as a puppy and was quickly adopted. Unfortunately, years later, he was abandoned by his family and picked up as a stray.
When his new family asked to take him home- everyone felt certain his time had finally come to be truly happy.
Confused and disoriented after so long in rescue, he escaped their garden on the first day with them. Without hesitation, they returned him to the shelter.
A fresh start?
The rescue staff were devastated to see Duke back behind bars.
They launched an urgent appeal, sharing his story to Facebook.
"My husband and I were there last weekend with our puppy that we adopted from the shelter and I got to meet this sweet little dog! He gives the most beautiful kisses and has such a gentle soul! Someone please give this sweet little dog a good home!" commented a viewer.
