In Virginia, USA, a 16-year-old Labrador named Oakley decided to go on an adventure. Unfortunately, as reported by People magazine, the adventure nearly turned to tragedy when the senior dog lost his footing.
The dog slipped on an icy patch and tumbled down a steep slope, falling to the bottom of a cliff. His owner, who witnessed the whole thing helplessly, feared his loyal companion was dead.
A drone to the rescue
Alerted by the owner's panicked call, officers from the Giles County Sheriff's Office rushed to the scene. Faced with impassable terrain and dangerous conditions, the team decided to use a drone.
Thanks to the device, rescuers were able to spot paw prints and locate Oakley at the bottom of the cliff, near some railway tracks.
A miraculous recovery
Thanks to a joint effort from several rescue teams, the dog was brought back to safety.
A short time later, Oakley, who was miraculously unharmed, was reunited with his family.
