When they first arrived at the Animal Friends Connection Humane Society shelter in Lodi, California, Clutch, Bounce and Tubular did not even look like dogs anymore. Handed over in rubbish bags in an attempt to contain their overwhelming stench, the three elderly Maltese dogs were in a state of extreme neglect.
After one of their owners sadly passed away and the other was moved into a care home, the family's granddaughter discovered them locked in a single room where they had spent over a month. Suffering from respiratory issues and severely matted fur that caused them intense pain, the animals were immediately taken in by one of the shelter's team members, Victoria Anderson.
A life-saving makeover
It took long hours of grooming, clipping and washing to free the three dogs from their heavy burden. Once rid of their matted coats, the three companions regained their dignity and began running around together like young puppies.
To meet their complex medical needs, the shelter reached out to a partner charity, Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, based in San Francisco, which specialises in caring for older dogs.
A new home for everyone
Once transferred, the three dogs gradually found their way into a brand-new life. As for Clutch, she was first placed in a foster home with Lindsay Dadko, a member of the charity, where she was house-trained alongside other dogs. She was eventually adopted by Zenaida, an elderly lady who was looking for a calm and affectionate companion.
