Moving guard of honour for 9-year-old rescue dog as she is finally adopted

By Elodie Carpentier•

After waiting patiently for 50 days to find a family, a dog has finally walked out of the shelter doors and into her new life.

A long wait for older dogs

Time can pass very slowly in animal shelters. While puppies often wait just hours or days, the wait is usually much longer for older dogs.

Lexi, a nine-year-old dog, spent around 50 days waiting for someone to adopt her.

Her adoption was fantastic news for the team at the Michigan Animal Rescue League (MARL) in the US, where Lexi had quickly become everyone's favourite companion.

A farewell filled with applause and tears

To celebrate her departure, staff and volunteers wanted to give her an unforgettable send-off. On the day she left, the team gathered along the corridor to form a heartwarming guard of honour for her.

Amid warm applause, tears of joy and final loving strokes, the dog trotted forward happily, wagging her tail energetically as if she understood her life had completely changed.

Today, far away from the noisy barking and cold concrete, Lexi is finally enjoying the comforts of a loving home, a cosy bed and long naps in the sun.
