This dog thought she'd found her forever home, but two years later everything fell apart

On 6 October, the Vaux-le-Pénil SPA shelter in France shared some heartbreaking news.

There is nothing sadder for rescue workers than seeing one of their beloved animals returned to the shelter.

And sadly, this is exactly what has happened to Channie.

Abandoned for a second time

Two years after being adopted by a family she thought would love her forever, the Belgian Malinois is back behind bars at the shelter. For two whole years, this lovely dog lived with her humans and grew deeply attached to her home. She had her own little routines and felt completely safe and secure in her daily life.

But now, that is all over. Her former owners recently had a baby and told the shelter staff that they no longer have enough time to look after her. They simply dropped her off at the shelter and drove away, leaving her behind...

A pet is for life

In a post on Facebook, the shelter team said they understood that a new baby completely turns family life upside down, and that exhaustion is part of the package. But as they rightly pointed out, Channie didn't ask for any of this. The poor dog didn't choose this sudden change and cannot possibly understand why she has been cast out of her home.

In their post, the Vaux-le-Pénil SPA made no attempt to hide their sadness and frustration. The shelter team reminded everyone that adopting an animal is a lifelong commitment, even when life gets tough. We truly hope Channie finds her real forever home very soon, with owners who are ready to love and support her through all of life's ups and downs.
