Four sick dogs abandoned in a garden: rescuers are horrified by their condition

On 4th February, the ASELA charity, based in Sauve in the Occitanie region of France, shared a heartbreaking story.

The introduction written by the rescuers on their Facebook account sets the tone: “Tonight, we’re going to tell you the story of four abandoned and neglected dogs.”

This sad story is about Derrick, Stan, Thia and Ernesto, who were abandoned in their garden by their owner.

A severe case of neglect

The dogs had no food or water. Another dog who lived with them had already been found dead. The health of the four dogs was deplorable. Thia, a female, was extremely emaciated. She was suffering from Leishmaniasis, a chronic parasitic disease that infects certain cells in the body.

Sadly, despite treatment and care in a foster home, poor Thia did not survive. Derrick was also severely emaciated and suffering from Leishmaniasis. He had an infected bite on his throat that required medical attention.

Mounting vet bills

Poor Stan also had a long-standing case of Leishmaniasis that had never been treated, leaving him terribly emaciated. Ernesto was the only dog to survive the terrible living conditions in a more or less acceptable state, likely due to him being a large crossbreed. His foster family has decided to adopt him and give him a forever home.

In the Facebook post, the ASELA charity stated that they had already spent over €4,000 on veterinary and pharmacy bills to treat the dogs. Their condition was extremely poor. The rescuers made it clear that further expenses were likely. We send them our support and hope that Stan and Derrick will be adopted as soon as possible.
