A concerned animal lover decided to take matters into her own hands, having noticed painful matting all over her flatmate's cat.
"He is a very sensitive cat and I felt awful petting him and feeling hard matting all over him", she explained online. "I talked to my roommate and recommended we shave him fully, since matting is painful and irreversible. Roommate recommended shaving one mat every few weeks so cat wouldn't be upset", she continued. "Seems pretty neglectful that hasn't happened yet".
Taking matters into her own hands
But here's where the situation became slightly more complicated.
Instead of shaving one mat as agreed, the flatmate shaved off all the cat's fur, much to the horror of his owner.
"Not my cat, not my decision to make, I recognise that and shouldn't have taken matters into my own hands. But emotionally I couldn't handle seeing him suffer for even long than he already was", she told viewers.
Sparking debate online
The post gave rise to a number of comments online:
"I think you let this go on for too long", wrote a reader. "No it wasn't your cat but your roommate was not being a responsible pet owner letting the cat get into this state".
"Neglect is a passive form of abuse", replied another.
