Nala, an RSPCA rescue adopted at 12 weeks old, was known across the town for her affectionate nature and daily wanderings.
She built a devoted following of more than 25,000 people on The Adventures of Nala Facebook page, with commuters regularly stopping to greet her or snap a photo as she lounged around the station.
A community favourite remembered
Nala's fame soon spread beyond Stevenage, with appearances on BBC News, Sky News and ITV’s Lorraine.
Her family announced her death on social media, describing her as a cherished member of their home and a cat who brought joy to countless strangers. They thanked the community for the love shown to her over the years, saying the town “just won’t be the same” without her.
Plans for a permanent memorial
Nala’s curiosity led her far beyond the station, often roaming five to twelve miles a day thanks to a GPS tracker fitted by her family. She was also well known at Stevenage Leisure Park, where restaurant staff greeted her like a regular.
A GoFundMe campaign has now been launched to fund a statue in her memory. Her family believe a permanent tribute at the station would mean a great deal to the many people whose days she brightened.
