It was shaping up to be an ordinary working day at a bakery that also serves as a parcel drop-off point in Nersingen, Bavaria. But everything changed when an employee, her curiosity piqued, heard a barely audible noise coming from a cardboard box!
What at first seemed like a practical joke quickly turned into a real rescue mission. The outcome could very well have been fatal.
A mysterious noise from a cardboard box
The employee opened the suspicious parcel and came face to face with a cat! It turned out that this unwitting traveller belonged to a regular customer, and the employee even recognised him. Luckily, the little animal had managed to make his presence known by meowing.
She immediately contacted the cat's owner. The owner had sealed the box and dropped it off for posting, completely unaware of its precious cargo. She hadn't noticed that her cat had curled up inside for a comfortable nap.
An unwitting journey comes to an end
Thanks to the employee's quick thinking, the cat was recovered safe and sound. He was returned to his owner the very same day, who was both stunned and relieved.
One question remains, however: will the cat ever forgive his owner for this traumatic journey in the dark? One thing is for sure, she won't be forgetting this particular postal delivery in a hurry!
