Before she even reached the shelter grounds, Susan spotted a taped-up cardboard box on the side of the busy road. She got out of her car to investigate.
A worrying discovery
Susan then noticed air holes punched into the box. She realised an animal must be trapped inside. The kind-hearted rescuer didn't hesitate to pick up the box and carry it into the shelter. She carefully opened it and discovered a fluffy ginger tomcat inside.
The cat wasn't microchipped, but he was immediately affectionate and seemed grateful to have been found. No one knows how long he had been shut in the box. The rescuers feared he might have been abandoned overnight. They kept the tomcat safe before he was transferred to the Orphans of the Storm animal shelter.
A gentle soul
The ginger tomcat was incredibly sweet-natured. He was very gentle during his vaccinations and even let the team wash him without a fuss! The staff named him Corn Cob.
The adorable cat didn't spend long at the shelter. In fact, just a week after his rescue, a couple visiting the centre fell in love with him at first sight. They decided to adopt him and renamed him Garfield. The lovely tomcat is now thriving in his warm, loving home and will be spending Christmas with his forever family!
