What was meant to be a harmless, routine walk for dog Yini and her 62-year-old owner quickly turned into a nightmare.
The unsuspecting dog owner had no idea of the danger when his pet suddenly found something on the ground and greedily devoured it. An X-ray at the animal clinic later revealed the shocking truth.
Meatballs with a deadly secret
In early December 2024, a 62-year-old dog owner was walking his Eurasier dog called Yini when disaster struck. In a green area in Fliederstraße in Germany, she ate a discarded meatball – unaware that her life was in danger.
Inside the meal lurked a deadly threat, as the X-ray revealed: a razor blade had lodged in the dog's stomach! Just hours later, Yini had to undergo emergency surgery at an animal clinic in Posthausen.
But Yini wasn't the only victim of this cruel trap; her owner was also seriously injured. When he tried to pull the meatball from his dog's mouth, he suffered a deep cut to his hand.
The animal clinic was appalled and issued an urgent warning: "Knowingly causing such harm to an animal and a human is repulsive and unacceptable."
Police warn dog owners
Following the incident, Bremen police are warning dog owners to be extra vigilant, as more bait may be in the area. Another dog owner has already reported finding a similarly prepared meatball nearby.
Officers are urging owners to keep their dogs in sight at all times during walks, avoid touching any suspicious objects and report them. If you think your dog is poisoned or injured, contact your vet immediately.
Fortunately for Yini, help arrived just in time, but how many more of these dangerous traps remain in the area is still unknown. Police are investigating and appealing for information from the public.
