The post showed a scared dog named Candy, listed for euthanasia at Dallas Animal Services. But something about her face made Reddit user ReindeerTiny4401 stop scrolling.
“She looked just like my dog,” she recalled.
Chance discovery
Candy wasn’t just a lookalike. A quick call to the shelter confirmed the unbelievable: she was Buddy’s long-lost sister, surrendered by her former owners. Without hesitation, ReindeerTiny4401 rushed to the shelter and adopted her too.
Candy, a Shar Pei, German Shepherd, and Rottweiler mix, was shy and shut down after years of living outdoors. She had heartworm and was terrified of people. But everything changed when she reunited with Buddy.
“They had a special bond instantly,” she wrote.
Siblings and best friends reunited
Within days, Candy began to trust again. She wagged her tail, played, and learned that life indoors could be joyful.
Today, the reunited siblings are inseparable, thriving in their forever home.
“She’s the best dog ever,” their owner said. “They’re best friends.”
One photo, one moment of recognition and a life was saved.
