Poodle Nancy required treatment on two occasions, after Chris noticed she had weeping eyes.
"Her eye was inflamed and clearly sore. She was becoming increasingly distressed", he told the BBC.
Terrifying risks
It turned out that the grass seeds had become stuck behind her eyelid, which was causing her a lot of pain.
Thankfully, the vet managed to remove the seeds without causing long-term damage.
"I could see there was quite a lot of discharge coming out from the eye and she was in pain so we had to apply topical anaesthetic into her eye to be able to examine her", explained Dr. Mirka Palenikova, the specialist who treated Nancy.
She warned that grass seeds can cause blindness if left untreated.
Special glasses for Nancy
"I would advise not to walk dogs in areas where there are obvious grass seeds or meadows with long grass", she warned owners.
Nancy now has special goggles, which protect her eyes during the summer months.
"When I heard about them, I was very sceptical and thought this is ridiculous", Chris explained. "Ultimately, I'd rather have a dog with two perfectly functional eyes than a dog that had lost one of them because of my prejudice".
