Managing director of Pilates World Australia, Rochelle Marinato regularly uses Instagram to promote her work. So when she received an email from Meta informing her they had suspended her account for breaching community standards, her heart sank.
But what caused the suspension, when all she'd done was post an innocent photo of her three dogs?
The terrible mistake
Horrifyingly, the mother of four was accused of breaching standards on 'child sexual exploitation, abuse and nudity', even though there were no humans present in the photo.
It turns out this was all a terrible mistake, with devastating consequences.
Losing £25,000 because of an AI error
With her accounts all closed, Rochelle's sales plummeted, resulting in a loss of over £25,000.
The director reached out to Meta, but has yet to hear back. Using a third party operator she managed to get her accounts back up and running, but it will take much longer to recover from the emotional toll this has taken.
"It's really heavy, actually, to think that this is something that's going to be associated with my business name and with my digital footprint. It's really, really scary, and all because of a mistake by AI. So it's impossible to know what meta will find a breach and what it won't, because that video was of three dogs. There were no humans in the video. So it's almost impossible to avoid in the future".
