Bella is a three-year-old tortoiseshell cat.
And she's also her mum's saviour.
Unusual behaviour
It all started the day before Mother's Day, in 2023.
"The week leading up to that Bella kept on climbing on my lap daily to sleep on me, she'd never done that before, and not since."
It was as if the sweet kitty sensed something was wrong.
A shocking diagnosis
On the morning of Mother’s Day, after opening her gifts, Bella’s owner suddenly collapsed. She woke up on the floor after passing out, and was rushed to the hospital. The shocking diagnosis? Blood clots on both lungs.
Thanks to swift medical intervention, she survived - but looking back, she believes Bella had been trying to warn her all along.
"I believe she knew that something was wrong with me, she sensed it, bless her."
The sixth sense of animals
Stories like Bella’s are not uncommon. Research suggests that animals can sense illness before humans realise something is wrong. Whether it’s detecting subtle chemical changes or responding to behavioural shifts, pets often display unusual behaviours when their loved ones are unwell. Bella’s unwavering affection wasn’t just a sign of love; it was a life-saving message.
This Valentine’s Day, let’s celebrate the extraordinary love our pets give us. Sometimes, their love is more than cuddles and purrs—it’s a heartbeat that watches over our own.
