Nine kittens have been found dumped in a cardboard box at a recycling point in Lachambre, eastern France, sparking anger online.

The tiny felines were discovered on Saturday, 14 June 2025, left in the sweltering heat with no means of escape.

Despite the cruelty, one small detail suggests the person responsible may have tried to ease their guilt.

A failed attempt to 'help'

The kittens, who appear to be from different litters, were placed inside the box along with a handful of dry food. Five are around three weeks old, while the other four are about two months old. The youngest were far too small to eat the kibble, a tragic sign that the gesture was more symbolic than practical.

Thankfully, the kittens were found just in time and taken to safety.

A call for help

The woman who found them shared her outrage on Facebook, condemning the heartless abandonment and appealing for help to find a rescue organisation that could properly care for the kittens.

Authorities have not yet identified who is responsible for abandoning the kittens.

At least these little furballs are now safe and sound.
