As social animals, dogs are happiest in the company of the people they love.
And while they can be alone with the right separation training, it turns out they spends lots of time alone thinking of their families.
Missing you when you're not around
Adrienne Carson, vice president of St Hubert's Animal Welfare, recently revealed to The Dog People that dogs miss their owners because they associate them with positive feelings.
"Research shows the longer you've been away, the happier your dog is when you return. Dogs are social beings so they may feel sad when their favourite person is gone", The Dog People explained.
Thankfully, dogs do well with the right routine, and many dogs pass the time resting and sleeping. Brain games and plenty of exercise will help your dog feel relaxed and settled in your absence.
Sweet dreams
Stanley Coren, professor emeritus of psychology and the University of British Columbia found that dogs dream of their favourite activities, including birds, balls - and quite possibly their favourite people.
So, not only does your dog think of you when you're not around, they probably dream about you too!
