Having owned Yorkshire Terriers throughout her life, she believed she understood the breed well and was keen to have another one.
Wanted: Sofa dog
Seeking a new four-legged companion following the sad passing of her previous pet, the woman made it clear to the breeder that she wanted a calm, "sofa" dog to keep her company. Understandably, as an older lady, she didn't want a pet that she'd have to run around after.
However, the puppy, named Roxanne, proved to be anything but a laid-back companion. Hyperactive and full of energy, Roxanne required far more attention and exercise than the woman could provide.
The woman soon found herself overwhelmed by the puppy's relentless need for activity, which starkly contrasted with her initial expectations.
Heartbreaking decision
Realising she could not meet Roxanne's needs, the woman tried to get advice from her vet about what she could do. Unfortunately, there was no quick fix; Roxanne's temperament was simply unsuited to the lifestyle her owner envisioned.
With a heavy heart, the woman made the difficult decision to entrust Roxanne to her local animal shelter, hoping the puppy would find a more suitable home.
While it's a desperately sad situation for the lady involved, it's a good reminder that if you want to get a new pet, you must do thorough research first to ensure you can meet the dog's needs. It's also crucial that you thoroughly research the breeder as, sadly, there are unscrupulous breeders who are more interested in making money than making sure a dog goes to the right home.
