While searching for a spot to relieve herself near a historic street lamp, the seven-year-old Akita suddenly let out a heart-wrenching cry and collapsed, dying instantly.
Authorities believe she suffered a fatal electric shock. A passerby who tried to help also sustained minor injuries and required medical treatment.
Walk turns to tragedy
Initially, it was thought the dog urinated at the lamp’s base, triggering the shock. However, investigations now suggest the ground near the lamp was electrified, and the accident occurred when she sniffed the wet area.
In response, town officials immediately switched off all similar street lamps and commissioned a specialist inspection. The lamps will remain off until they are deemed safe.
Following the incident, several dog owners reported their pets behaving strangely near the same lamp, with some allegedly howling in pain.
Police investigation
The street lamp had been converted to LED technology two years ago, but the exact cause of the electrical fault remains unclear. Police have launched an investigation, and the case is under review by the public prosecutor’s office.
Residents remain shaken by the tragedy, mourning the loss of the beloved Akita while awaiting answers and assurances that such a devastating accident won’t happen again.
